Lutheran Hospital Hybrid Cath Lab
At the Heart of It
Fort Wayne, Indiana
A hybrid catherization (cath) lab is an advanced procedure space that can improve patient safety and recovery time by combining a traditional operating room with an image guided interventional suite for minimally invasive procedures that require a multidisciplinary physician team to address complex patient issues. The integration of technology has led to the development of new procedures that give patients more options to treat their complex health issues. Hybrid cath labs improve staff efficiency and avoid duplication of equipment and systems that would typically be required for multiple procedures. These procedures can be scheduled as a single case with a hybrid cath lab and reduce the time needed to address complex patient conditions.
Located within the Heart Pavilion and adjacent to the existing OR suite, the hybrid catheterization lab at Lutheran Hospital offers true collaboration with advanced technology and clinical specialization. With advanced imaging technology integrated within the cath lab, Lutheran interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons can more accurately diagnose and move to treatment in one location, without requiring multiple procedures. This cohesive, seamless plan improves care by monitoring cardiovascular imaging in real time. Adjustments can be made to treatment decisions, including the ability to perform more minimally invasive procedures, while co-locating within a singular procedure room. In addition to the hybrid cath lab, the renovation included improvements to staff support spaces and finish updates in public and clinical areas to match the updated hospital aesthetic.
