Students attending Whitko Career Academy build foundational skills for in-demand regional careers to become the educated and engaged employees of the future. With the partnership and generous donations from the 80/20 Foundation Trust and the Whitley County Community Foundation, the Whitko Career Academy (WCA) enhanced their educational reach to help pave the way for the futures of manufacturing, technology, and education for young adults in the area. WCA provides a state-of-the-art space for high school students to learn and build experience in over 14 skilled professions. Students gain skills through hands-on experience in nursing, agriculture, and many construction related trades.
The design of the WCA focuses on the educational opportunities available, encouraging collaboration and eliminating barriers for student involvement. With the newly added adaptive and interactive learning environments, students at WCA have the ability to prepare for their future careers. An existing middle school building was repurposed to serve as the career academy and a new pole barn was installed for agricultural resources. Through this innovative project, Whitko Community Schools has invested in the future of the region’s economy and the livelihoods of their individual students.
