Southwest Allen County Schools and Lafayette Meadows Elementary School partnering with MKM architect
MKM architecture + design (MKM) has been selected to expand Southwest Allen County School’s (SACS) Lafayette Meadows Elementary School. The school, originally designed by MKM in 2003, requires an expansion due to a steady rise in student population. The 32,000-square-foot expansion includes an additional physical education space, an expanded cafetorium, two kindergarten classrooms, and a “neighborhood” which includes twelve grade-level classrooms. These new classrooms focus on collaborative learning and include interior garage doors which open to central-learning common spaces, encouraging communication, creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.
“SACS has been a long-time community innovator, focusing on the development of resilient problem-solvers,” said Dodd Kattman, Principal at MKM. “With the addition of these new classrooms, Lafayette Meadows is allowing its students to interact and learn together, while maintaining a safe and instructive environment.”
The school will remain operational during the expansion. Construction is anticipated to be complete July 2019.
